Safari full page screenshot on Mac and iPhone: how to do it

October 31, 2026 · 3 min read

Safari can take a full page screenshot on iPhone and iPad, but not directly on a Mac. On iPhone, take a screenshot, tap the thumbnail and choose Full Page. On a Mac, open Web Inspector, right-click the page’s html element and choose Capture Screenshot, or save the page as a PDF with File > Print if a document is enough.

Safari full page screenshot: where it works

Device Built-in full page option How
iPhone and iPad Yes Screenshot, thumbnail, Full Page
Mac No button, only a developer route Web Inspector, Capture Screenshot
Mac, as a document Yes, as PDF File > Print, then PDF

On iPhone: Full Page

  1. Press the side button and volume up together (Home and side button on iPhone SE).
  2. Tap the thumbnail in the lower-left corner.
  3. Tap Full Page and drag on the preview on the right to check the capture.
  4. Crop if needed, then save.

Apple’s iPhone guide gives a webpage in Safari as the example for Full Page. More detail, including what to do in apps without it, is in how to take a long screenshot on iPhone.

On a Mac: Web Inspector’s Capture Screenshot

The Mac version of Safari has no full page screenshot button, but its developer tools can capture any element of a page, including the whole page:

  1. Turn on the developer menu in Safari’s settings (the Advanced tab).
  2. Open Web Inspector with Option + Cmd + I.
  3. In the Elements tab, right-click the html element at the top of the tree.
  4. Choose Capture Screenshot and pick where to save the file.

This method is described in a 2020 guide on redalemeden.com, which also notes you may need to add .png to the file name so Preview opens it as an image. The labels in Safari’s settings have changed between versions, so the exact name of the developer option may differ on your Mac.

On a Mac: save the page as PDF

If you need a document rather than an image, choose File > Print, then PDF at the bottom of the dialog, as described in Apple’s Safari guide. The print layout can differ from the page on screen.

Other browsers

Firefox has a Save full page button in its screenshot tool: see Firefox screenshots.

In Chrome on a Mac, Full page screenshot does it without developer tools: pick PDF, PNG or JPG, click Capture Full Page, and the extension scrolls the page for you. It works in Chrome only, not in Safari.
